"Institutions' Evolving Alts Allocations"

Alternative investments have become less of an alternative and more of an integral portion of institutional investors' portfolios. From hedge funds, private equity and funds-of-funds to commodities, real estate, managed futures and derivatives contracts, institutional investors have increasingly allocated to alternatives in search of returns and diversification in a difficult economic environment.

During FundFire's August Exchange webinar, two panelists from outsourced CIO plans will talk about what their institutional clients are looking for and how that affects traditional managers. They will drill down into specific categories of alternatives and discuss how they compare and compete with traditional equity and fixed income funds for assets in defined benefit pension plans, endowments and foundations. Our panelists will discuss which specific types of alternative investments are most appealing for institutional investors in the current environment and why.

Joining us is Thomas Cowhey, the chief investment strategist and chief portfolio strategist at Hirtle Callaghan, named among the top ten OCIO providers in a survey by executive recruiter Charles Skorina. He chairs the firm's Investment Policy Committee.

Cowhey will be joined by Lee Partridge, managing director and the chief investment officer of Salient Partners. He serves as the OCIO and portfolio manager of the San Diego County Employees Retirement Association (SDCERA) and its $7.7 billion investment portfolio.

Matt Gunn, a FundFire reporter, will moderate.

The Exchange: Institutions' Evolving Alternatives Allocations will be held Friday, September 21, 2012, from 11:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Eastern Time.
